  • Consortia of hospital, clinics and local physician offices: Developed strategy and facilitated the evaluation and selection of a computer-based patient record (CPR) system that permits sharing of appropriate clinical information between hospital, its owned clinics/physician offices, and independent physician offices in the community.

  • Integrated Delivery System: Facilitated development of a high-level migration plan to move towards a computer-based patient record (CPR). Includes readiness assessment, analysis of vision, and high level cost/benefit analysis.

  • Medium sized hospital: Implementation project management and problem solving assistance in implementing a full range of clinical and financial applications on the Meditech client server product. Provided leadership, methodologies, tools and guidance resulting in successful implementation and use of the system, in an organization that was very short on IT experience and resources.

  • Large Multi-Specialty Clinic: Facilitated process to evaluate computer-based patient record (CPR) vendors for this prominent clinic with over 400 MD's and 15 locations. Included strategy, initial screening of vendors, RFI/RFP, scripted product demonstrations etc.


  • Managed care organization with a large multi-specialty capitated clinic, indemnity plan and TPA function: Assisted in a variety of activities including:

Lead through a comprehensive vendor evaluation and selection process, negotiated a strong performance based contract and helped plan for system implementation.


  • Small Specialty Clinic: Negotiated contract for practice management and Computer-based Patient Record (CPR) system securing strong pay for performance principals, significant business/contractual protection, major cost concessions and more.


  • Major City in mainland China: Provided strategic assistance including:
    • Assessed their "Digital Hospital" strategy for all hospitals in the city to leap from very basic and limited systems to state of art Electronic Health Record systems
    • Assessed the Global market (including North America, Europe, Asia and Australia) for EHR and potential fit for the Chinese market

A sampling of our HIPAA engagements:
  • Urban Teaching Hospital: Assessed current security efforts against the final HIPAA Security rules. Included reviewing prior reports/efforts based on security NPRM, and interpreting changes/impact in rules for client. Reported on key program strengths and weaknesses; identification of major gaps; and practical next steps. From the solutions perspective we identified general classes, sample price range, and sample vendors for technology tools or products to consider acquiring; and a work plan to help orchestrate future efforts.


  • Multi-regional Integrated Delivery System: Conducted HIPAA assessment for four regions of this integrated delivery system with wide variety of acute, ambulatory, sub-acute, rehab, and physician practice facilities. Major tasks included:
    • HIPAA summary/education session for corporate executive management
    • Survey at each region of management perceptions of organizational HIPAA awareness and level of preparation for complying with proposed regulations
    • Broad assessment of awareness and positioning to comply with proposed HIPAA regulations for transactions, code sets and identifiers, security, and privacy
    • Broad estimate of potential economic benefits
    • Management feedback sessions at each region

  • Regional Delivery System: Conducted HIPAA Assessment, detailed Transactions Data Gap Analysis, and periodic monitoring/remediation support
    • Comprehensive privacy, security and transactions assessment for hospitals, clinics, owned physician offices, home health and DME.
    • Conducted analysis at the data element level of detail to determine if and how data is captured for each of the X12N transactions.
      • For each data element defined if it is captured electronically, captured on paper or not captured at all
      • Assisted client in contacting their vendors, clearinghouses and payers to determine their level of readiness of support
      • Provided tools for client to remediate data gaps and modify work flows
      • Included eight leading vendors in inpatient, outpatient, home health and DME environments
    • Conduct periodic follow-up visits and remote support to assist in remediation and project management

  • Hospital based urban PHO: Conducted HIPAA assessment and assisted in project management for the remediation efforts, including privacy, security, transactions preparation and testing

Similar HIPAA assessment and assistance projects have also been conducted on a smaller scale for a conducted for Physician offices, a Physician Office Billing Service, a Provider Health Organization (PHO), and an insurance industry software supplier.
